It is a collective responsibility
Following the kidnap outside the Mont Kiara International School last Friday at 7.40am, be it targeted or random, it is the responsibility of all parents and students to be alert at all times.

At a neighbouring feeder school, all within a month, there have been three failed attempts to kidnap its students, while the first appears to be random, the second was targeted and the third occurred even after a lockdown of the school premises.

In the meantime, we urge parents to send and pick their children as close as possible to the single entrance/exit. We are particularly concerned about parents sending and picking their children on the Sprint highway especially at the near end where students walk outside of the barrier making them an easy target.

We strongly urge parents, yet again, to discourage their children from having their lunch outside the school premises on co-curriculum days.

We have touched base with three schools in the vicinity and will work closely in terms of tightening security overall.

You may have noticed that in the morning one of our security guards now stands across the road from the school. The initial idea was to deter truancy. Now he has another role.

While the school authorities can only do so much, it is time that we return the community spirit and initiative of collective responsibility in dealing with crime and social ills.

We welcome all suggestions.

A simple suggestion proposed is to equip your children with an inexpensive whistle to blow into should the need arise to attract attention where there is danger.
